May 2026
At CQS, we believe that sustainability is built through everyday actions that can create meaningful change. For yet another year, we continued our cigarette butt recycling initiative across our facilities, reinforcing our commitment to a more responsible and environmentally conscious workplace.
Throughout 2025, a total of 43.88 kg of cigarette butts were collected through 3 dedicated recycling bins placed at our facilities in Nea Ionia and Votanikos. This amount corresponds to approximately 175,520 cigarette butts that were prevented from ending up in the environment.
Although cigarette butts may seem insignificant, their environmental impact is far from small. Cigarette filters contain plastic and harmful chemicals that can pollute soil and water for years when disposed of improperly. Through proper collection and recycling, these materials can be repurposed while significantly reducing their environmental footprint.
As a result of the recycling process, the collected cigarette butts were transformed into:
- 9.65 kg of fertilizer
- 30.72 kg of industrial plastic
At the same time, the initiative generated a meaningful environmental benefit:
- 280.83 kg of CO2 emissions were prevented
- 15.36 kg of methane emissions were avoided
- 85,340 m³ of water were protected from pollution
- 6,840.89 MJ of non-renewable energy were saved
At CQS, initiatives like this are part of a broader culture of responsibility and environmental awareness that we strive to strengthen every day across our workplaces.
We would like to thank all our people who actively participated in this and proved that even the smallest habits can create a significant positive impact when done collectively.
