Team Changers for Clean Coasts

June 2023

On World Environment Day, which is celebrated every year on June 5, Team Changers took action to limit pollution on the shores of Lavreotiki.

On June 2nd, 50 Team Changers volunteers started from the central buildings in N. Ionia and visited the beaches of Tsonima, Kalopigado and Punta Zeza, having received the necessary equipment for cleaning the beaches. With a central message “We Take Action”, the initiative was open to all volunteers who wanted to contribute by cleaning the three coasts.

Team Changers filled dozens of garbage bags. Most of the waste that ends up in the sea is single-use plastic and, according to research, if pollution continues at the same rate, it is estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans. Cigarette butts and single-use plastics were the most abundant litter found on the shores. This waste is related to recreational activities in the coastal zone, and is directly related to our daily consumption habits that last for a minimum time in use, but remain on the coasts and seabed for many years, posing a serious threat to marine animals and organisms.

CQS’s volunteer team, Team Changers, recognizes that coastal protection is important and awareness is essential for all of us.

We take action and contribute to a better future.

We all make small changes together, with great value for the health of our planet.
